W.A. Travels – Wave Rock, Hyden

Wave Rock, Hyden

The Majestic beauty of Wave rock.

Wave rock (also known as Katter Kich by the Noongar people) is an amazing, naturally weather-eroded rock formation that is shaped like a breaking ocean wave about 15 m high and around 110 m long. It forms the north side of a solitary hill, which is known as “Hyden Rock.”

I spent two days there in March 2021.  When you stand directly beneath it, you can feel its impressively foreboding presence, shelter you with a kind of ancient strength and wisdom. In the evening, when the shadows lengthen and are drawn out under the fading light of an orange and pink sunset, you can feel its power strengthen. It is a truly magical place to be.
